23 April 2026
The students of Transilvania University of Brașov obtained an outstanding achievement at Students International Olympiad on Mechanism and Machine Science, organised between 15 and 18 April at Shandong University of Weihai, China, for which they were rewarded with the silver medal.
The 3-student member UNITBV team climbed to the second step of the podium; and as regards the individual event, the 4th-year student Ivan Paul Andrei – Faculty of Mechanical Engineering ranked third. The other two student members of the team are Codreanu Ștefan-Cristian and Stanciu Ștefan, both of them in the same final year at the Faculty of Technological Engineering and Industrial Management.
Fourteen teams participated in the competition. The 4-hour competition test required the students to solve problems of high complexity in the fields of the analysis and synthesis of mechanisms, as well as mechanical transmissions.
At the end of a tight and rigorous competition, the students Stanciu Ștefan and Ivan Paul Andrei were awarded a special diploma for their innovative solutions found while solving the competition assignments.
The UNITBV team has marked the second participation in the Students International Olympiad on Mechanism and Machine Science (SIOMMS). Last year, the competition took place in Kazakhstan, and the students returned with the gold medal in the team event, and two first places in the individual event.
The three students were trained by seven academic teaching personnel members within the Faculty of Product Design and Environment, and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
