Transilvania University of Brașov ranks first among Romanian universities in US News Best Global Universities top. If, last year, Transilvania University ranked third among Romania’s institutions, this year, the university of Brașov has climbed to the first place.

At worldwide level as well, Transilvania University climbed no less than 50 positions, from the 760^th place that it occupied last year to the 710^th place; and at European level, it has marked an ascent from the 312^th place to the 289^thplace.

This year, 2,000 universities from all over the world were included in US News Best Global Universities ranking, that is, 250 more than in the last year’s edition. From Romania, 12 higher education institutions were included in the top, and three others were only mentioned. Transilvania University of Brașov is immediately followed by Babes Bolyai University (on the 717^th place worldwide) and the West University of Timișoara (on the 889^th place worldwide).

“It is the first time that our university is at the forefront of Romanian universities in a prestigious international ranking made by an American institution. We are happy to start reaping the fruits of some measures taken a few years ago, which turned our university into a dynamic institution, oriented towards visible performance at the international level; and the merits belong to the entire academic community of Brașov”, declared the Rector of Transilvania University of Brașov, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ioan Vasile Abrudan.

To achieve this ranking, 13 indicators were analysed, that measure the performance of academic research, but also the reputation at the global and regional level. The performance indicators of Best Global Universities Rankings are Global research reputation (12.5%), Regional research reputation (12.5%), Publications (10%), Books (2.5%), Conferences (2.5%), Normalized citation impact (10%), Total citations (7.5%), Number of publications that are among the 10% most cited (12.5%), Percentage of total publications that are among the 10% most cited (10%), International collaboration – relative to country(5%), International collaboration (5%), Number of highly cited papers that are among the top 1% most cited in their respective field (5%), Percentage of highly cited papers that are among the top 1% most cited in their respective field (5%).
