A six part solo piano concert series
Chamber Jazz presents Alone Together, a six part solo piano concert series conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic. The crisis, as we all know, affected the entire world, across countries and continents, imposing extraordinary burdens on our communities. Perhaps performing artists were among the most affected communities, having seen their way of life completely disrupted. As quarantines and lockdowns keep us alone, we must not forget that we are all in this together and that music and the arts can offer solace and hope. Taking its name from the classic jazz standard Alone Together, our series will feature six of the most representative Romanian jazz pianists and improvisers today playing solo – probably the absolute chamber music endeavor -– and discussing their approach to improvisation with our curator, pianist Lucian Ban, and the director of the Multicultural Centre, Adrian Lăcătuș. For any jazz pianist, playing solo is the greatest challenge, as there's nowhere to hide and you have to face not only your demons, but the whole history of jazz piano and that of the piano itself. Each recital will be professionally filmed and recorded live on our stunning Steinway D piano and will be streamed on our Facebook and YouTube pages according to the schedule below.
Along with whatever they choose to perform, each pianist will be encouraged to offer their own take on the classic jazz standard Alone Together. The Multicultural Center is proud to continue its Chamber Jazz program during these unprecedented times and to be able to keep the musicians and the community together. We are looking forward to reconnect with our audience in Brasov and, this time, from all over the world through our Alone Together streamed concerts.
