28 January 2021
Transilvania University of Brașov is a leader among the Romanian universities, according to the latest report http://webometrics.info/en/Europe/Romania published by Ranking Web of Universities (Webometrics) on 27 January 2021. This ranking measures the results of over 31000 universities worldwide, of which 102 are higher education institutions in Romania.
According to the Webometrics report, UNITBV ranks fifth in Romania, 567th in Europe and 1422nd in the world.
The current ranking has come with new rules compared to the usual calculation indicators. Thus, the presence indicator, which had a weight of 5% and which represented the online presence, directly proportional to the size (number of pages) of the main web domain of the institution, was excluded.
The current indicators taken into account by Webometrics are:
- visibility – the number of external networks referring to the domain of the institution (50%)
- transparency – the number of citations registered by the authors of the institution on Google Scholar platform; (10%)
- excellence in research – the number of papers among the first most cited 10% in 26 disciplines. Calculation period: 2015-2019 (40%)
The Webometrics ranking is published twice a year (the data are collected in the first weeks of January and July, to be made public at the end of these months) and it measures the results of 31000 higher education institutions worldwide.
Founded in 2004 by Cybermetrics Lab (Spanish National Research Council, CSIC) in Spain, Webometrics is a classification system for the universities from all over the world, and it is based on indicators that take into account both the volume of web content and the visibility and impact of scientific papers.
