All University buildings in the historic centre have been restored or are undergoing restoration this year

Transilvania University of Brașov treasures the heritage buildings in its property and therefore constantly invests in their restoration and conservation. In 2020 alone, UNITBV allocated 5 million RON for the restoration of the six buildings located in the historic centre. Of these funds, only 7% is money from the state budget, the difference is represented by the University’s own funds.

After the Rectorate’s façade was completely restored, in 2019, the repair and restoration works moved inside. Since last year, the ground floor of the building has been in restoration, including the arrangement of a new event and conference room with a capacity of 150 seats. Additionally, the building’s installations will be changed, and the interior will regain its former charm. In recent years, the University has invested almost 14 million RON from its own revenues for the restoration and repair works of this emblematic building for the city of Brașov.

Also last year, the rehabilitation works of the T-building’s façade began. In less than a year, the exterior of the building was completely restored and the roof was repaired. The value of the works amounted to over 1,6 million RON.

Moreover, in R building, on Castelului Street, the restoration works of the façade were begun and completed last year, as well as some interior repairs, amounting to approximately 180.000 RON.

Repair works are also underway in the S building (Faculty of Silviculture and Forest Engineering). Here the roof was replaced, and soon the building will have new windows. For these works, the University paid over 1 million RON in 2020. This year, the restoration works of the façade will start. All these interventions follow the plans and recommendations of the specialists in the Department for Culture, so that the building can preserve all the original architectural features of the second half of the nineteenth century, when it was built.

In fact, all the renovations of the buildings in the historic centre of the city were carried out in accordance with the approval and recommendations of the Department for Culture.

Historical buildings, modern interiors

Furthermore, works were carried out in the buildings K (on Nicolae Bălcescu Street) and N (on Politehnicii Street). Here, most repairs were made in course rooms and laboratories. In total, over 340.000 RON were invested in repairing the two buildings.

The university buildings located in the central area of Brașov complete the city’s historical landscape, and the stories of each of them represent valuable chapters in the architectural history of Brașov. These buildings do not belong only to Transilvania University, but also to the city and the people of Brașov, who have to take care of them and preserve their charm of yesteryear.

Transilvania University of Brașov has 21 buildings for didactic activities. They are located in several areas of the city. Two didactic bases (in Gârcini and Sânpetru), 13 dormitories, 2 canteens and the Research and Development Institute (composed of 12 buildings with high energy efficiency) add to the aforementioned. Among all these, two buildings (the K building and the Rectorate) are historical monuments.
