UNITBV closes its accounts at Austrian-equity banks

The first measures taken by the Rector of Transilvania University of Brașov following Austria’s blocking of Romania’s entry into the Schengen Area
Based on art. 123 par. 1 and par. 2 on university autonomy, and by virtue of the attributes conferred on university rectors according to art. 213 par. 6 lett. a) of the National Education Law no. 1/2011, the Rector of Transilvania University in Braşov has decided:
- to close the accounts in both RON and foreign currency that Transilvania University of Brașov holds at Austrian-equity banks. Those amounts will be transferred to other commercial banks, with majority Romanian equity, under contractual conditions at least as advantageous for the University;
- to fuel the vehicles owned by Transilvania University of Brașov from fuelling stations belonging to the companies with the lowest percentage of Austrian equity, which are signatories of the framework agreement on fuel supply;
- to purchase air transport services for the University’s employees and students from airlines other than the Austrian ones, provided that there are other options in accordance with the legislation in force;
- to suspend the meetings/discussions of the management of Transilvania University of Brașov with the representatives of the Austrian officials and companies, until the officials of this State adopt a fair and objective decision, in accordance with the European democratic values regarding Romania’s entry into the Schengen Area;
- to continue the collaborations with the educational and research institutions of Austria, in the spirit of collegiality, mutual respect, promotion of democratic values and academic freedom.
Transilvania University of Brașov is the largest and best performing university in the Central Region, where 20,000 students from all the counties of Romania and from 84 other countries of the world are currently studying.
