  • Almost 1 million euros for student projects at Transilvania University of Brașov

Almost 1 million euros for student projects at Transilvania University of Brașov

The students who participated in “Be central!” competition and who came up with ideas for improving the university’s activity will receive the necessary funding to start their projects. For this competition, Transilvania University of Brașov has made available to students no less than 1 million euros, from its own funds. The money will be used both for the purchase of equipment and software, and for the scholarships of the students involved in the project. Scholarships amount to 25.500 euros for a team.

In November last year, Transilvania University of Brașov launched the 2020 competition “Be central!”, dedicated to all UNITBV students. The youth had a month to come up with ideas and to draft projects that would improve the university's activity. In total, 50 projects were submitted, out of which 10 were selected for funding. Starting with the second semester, the students will begin to implement their projects.

The largest amount allocated to a project is almost 100.000 euros. The money will be used to develop a centre of practical skills through simulation in medicine. In addition to the necessary mannequins and medical equipment, first-aid courses for the students and community of Brașov will be organized within the project.

Moreover, within DIGIEdu project, estimated at a little over 90.000 euros, students will transpose the teaching materials into virtual reality. For example, the students in Medicine will be able to see a heart in three-dimensional format and to study its sections. Whereas the students in Mechanical Engineering will be able to study an engine and its sections in virtual reality.

Another project, amounting to almost 95.000 euros, aims to develop an application for the students of the Faculty of Medicine, with a view to digitizing a database of teaching materials.

Two other proposed projects aim to develop systems for the detection and protection of people with SARS-COV-2. The project of the team that will make a robot for disinfecting the classrooms, with the help of UV lamps falls within the chapter of epidemiological protection, too.

Another project with an estimated value of 80.000 euros is “carduri@UNITBV”. The team of students who initiated this project aims to connect all the services that benefit the students of the University, with a single card. Thus, students’ access to various UNITBV buildings, or their access to various services will be possible just by card reading.

Other selected projects aim to continue digitizing the University’s resources. Whether we are talking about teaching or communication resources, they will be easier and faster to access.

In total, for all these projects, Transilvania University of Brașov will contribute 887.000 euros, of which 234.300 euros is money that students will receive as scholarship. Thus, the value of the scholarship for a single team reaches up to 25.500 euros. The rest of the money is allocated to the purchase of equipment and software necessary for the realization and implementation of projects. The money comes from the University’s own funds.
