Infotron 2023
29 June 2023
Almost 400 pupils from four high schools of Brașov (“Grigore Moisil” National College, “Dr. Ioan Meșotă” National College, “Unirea” National College and “Andrei Mureșanu” High School) participated this year in InfoTRON 2023. InfoTRON promotes MECHATRONICS (MECHANICS + ELECTRONICS + COMPUTER SCIENCE) among 5th-12th graders, through courses and competitions, with a view to applying computer science in the conception, design, achievement and implementation of mechatronic systems that place emphasis on the combination of technical and behavioural skills needed in the future (teamwork, creativity, innovation, etc.). Within the project, the pupils were trained by academic teaching personnel and coordinated by students at Transilvania University of Brașov).
The project started in March this year and ended in June, when the best works competed for a place on the podium. The works of the 5th-8th graders were made on LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 and LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime kits; whereas for the 9th-12th graders, on specialized kits based on development systems with microcontrollers type Arduino and ESP32 and components that allow the achievement of applications with a progressive degree of complexity.
The event is part of the project “Strategic Partnership for Education 5.0” conducted by the four education institutions, Brașov County School Inspectorate, Transilvania University of Brașov (Faculties of Product Design and Environment, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Mathematics - Computer Science) together with the companies Miele Brașov and Siemens Industry Software.
