Photo contest – Brașov in black and white

14 - 24 November 2025, photo contest for the UNITBV students

Let’s discover Brașov in black and white! If you are a photography enthusiast, we challenge you to a contest! We kindly ask you to send us until November 19th on the email address birou.comunicare@unitbv.ro a black and white photo that you have taken. We will select a maximum of 30 photos to display on UNITBV’s Facebook and Instagram pages. Eventually, the pictures collecting the highest number of likes will be printed in the University’s 2026 calendar.

The highest-rated photo will be rewarded with a UNITBV student kit.

Calendar of the photo contest:

  • 14 - 19 November 2025 – submission of photos 
  • 20 November – display of the selected photos and start of voting
  • 20 - 24 November – actual voting of the submitted photos
  • 24 November (at 9:00 a.m.) – stop of voting 
  • 24 November – announcement of the winner and selected photos for the calendar

 

Conduct and regulations of the contest:

This competition aims at fostering the students’ creativity and originality, and at challenging them to capture the city of their student years, through the camera lens.

The photos shall be black and white, and exclusively capture images of Brașov city, such as: landscapes, architectures, portraits, student life aspects, in an original and novel way.

EXCLUSIVELY the students of Transilvania University of Brașov (regardless of study programme - bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate) may register for this contest. 

The photos must be sent together with the statement of originality, which can be downloaded HERE, and ONLY the photos accompanied by the above-mentioned document with handwritten signature, will be displayed

The selected photos (compliant with the criteria set out in these regulations) will be displayed on the Facebook and Instagram pages of Transilvania University of Brașov, accompanied by a comment with the name of the student who took them and the faculty where s/he is enrolled. The likes for the photo will be EXCLUSIVELY given TO THE COMMENT with the student’s name, and it is ONLY the likes to the comment that will be counted, NOT the likes to the photo. At the end of the contest, the likes on both Facebook and Instagram pages will be added up, and the photo with the highest number of likes to the comment will be designated as the winner.

The Compartment of Communications will select a maximum of 30 photos to display on the University’s Facebook and Instagram pages. The 10 top-ranked photos in terms of likes (to the comment with the student’s name) will be chosen for the printed calendar. Other 3 photos will be chosen by the Compartment of Communications within Transilvania University of Brașov.

The photos must fall within the following requirements:

  • Minimum size: 5 MB
  • Maximum size: 25 MB
  • Format: *jpeg, *png, *tiff
  • Minimum resolution: 300 px
  • Maximum resolution: 5,000 px
  • Black and white

 

All participants shall fill out a statutory declaration on the authenticity of the photo and the assignment of copyright, without financial rewards.

 

  • Selection criteria:
  • Relevance of the photo to the proposed theme (black and white photos taken in the city of Brașov)
  • Creativity and originality
  • Photos that have undergone transformations due to excessive digital processing obvious manipulations, collages, royalty free photos or photos from various paid collections etc. will not be selected.
  • Photos which have political influence, are derogatory to the characters, are violent, obscene, offensive or slanderous, which promote any kind of discrimination, use of drugs, tobacco or alcohol, or which can cause harm of any kind to someone, or which contain advertising will not be accepted. 
  • Compliance with the size- and resolution-related requirements, etc.

 

The 2026 calendar of Transilvania University of Brașov will be printed on A3 and A5 format, and will be offered to all the University’s partners and collaborators, as well as to the students whose photos were selected for the calendar.

The graphics and order of publishing the photos in the calendar rest exclusively with the Compartment of Communications within Transilvania University of Brașov.

The organizers of the contest (Transilvania University of Brașov) bear no responsibility for any possible copyright infringements. The liability rests exclusively with the person who will have sent the photo. (The participants whose photos will be selected to be printed in the calendar shall sign a statutory statement by which they will assume ownership of the photo).

With the registration of the photos in the contest, the participants will have fully accepted the terms of this regulation and any subsequent decisions of the organizers. 

We reserve the right to refuse the publication of photos that do not seem in line with the proposed theme. 

No appeals will be admitted at the end of the contest.
