Today, Transilvania University of Brașov was the venue of a working meeting between the professors of the Faculty of Silviculture and Forest Engineering, and the representatives of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests, together with the Minister of Environment, Tanczos Barna. At today's meeting, the specialists discussed the development and implementation of a long-term forest management strategy in Romania.
The representatives of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests consider it necessary to achieve such a strategy, in order to manage the forest areas in Romania as efficiently as possible and to avoid long-term ecological problems.
The main factors consulted for such a strategy were the specialists at the Faculties of Silviculture of Transilvania University in Brașov and Ștefan cel Mare University in Suceava.
Together with the representatives of the Ministry of Environment, the professors within both Faculties of Silviculture worked on the elaboration of some strategic directions and measures for the development, exploitation and maintenance of the forest areas in Romania. The proposed strategic directions include:
to increase the areas covered with forest vegetation,
to ensure the continuity of sustainable wood production,
to support the higher and multi-cyclical capitalization of wood,
to strengthen the management system of the national protected-area network,
to ensure the professionalization of the forestry administration, or the regular and sustained consultation of the stakeholders.
The representatives of Transilvania University of Brașov insisted on the need to continue the process of elaborating a strategic document regarding the future of Romanian forestry. Moreover, the specialists in Brașov called for transparency, scientific substantiation, dialogue and involvement.
The Minister of Environment, Water and Forests, Tanczos Barna, declared today in Brașov, that the contribution brought by Transilvania University of Brașov to this strategy is extremely valuable, and that the document to be elaborated is the most important step for the Romanian forestry sector, which has been taken in the last 30 years.
