Photo contest “Brașov in My Student Years: A Story in Pictures”

UNITBV launches a creative challenge for all photography-loving students. Capture the essence of Brașov in an original image that tells the story of your favourite places and special moments or of the details that give the uniqueness of this city!

Until 9 November 2024, send us a photo taken by yourself, in which you artistically capture any detail or particularity of the city of Brașov!

The submitted photo must be in portrait format, of 9x12 (1063x1417px) min. 250dpi in size. (The photos that do not fall within the required format will not be included in the contest.)

We will eventually select at most 30 photos to be posted on the social media pages of UNITBV. The pictures that will have received the highest number of likes will be printed in the University’s calendar for 2025. 
The most appreciated photo will be awarded with a UNITBV student kit. The students of Transilvania University of Brașov, in all higher-education cycles (bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctorate) and all forms of education (full-time, part time and distance learning) can register for this contest.

This contest aims at encouraging the students’ creativity and originality, as well as at challenging them to capture the city of Brașov, through the camera lens, in an artistic and original way. 

The photos should genuinely capture city details, complex architectures and features of architecture, alleys, passages, statues, aspects of a student’s life and any other interesting element.

Calendar of the photo contest:

  • 29 October 2024 – launch of the contest
  • 29 October - 9 November 2024 – submittal of the photos to the email address birou.comunicare@unitbv.ro
  • 12 November 2024 – photo centralization and selection by the organizers, as well as publication on the social media pages of UNITBV, in order to be voted
  • 12 November - 18 November – voting for the best photos (through the “like” system) on the official Facebook and Instagram pages of UNITBV
  • 19 November – selection of the photos with the highest number of likes, and announcement of the winners.

Mechanism of the contest:

The participants will send the photos via email to the address birou.comunicare@unitbv.rosubject to the following guidelines:

  • Format: *jpeg, *jpg, *png, *tiff
  • Minimum resolution: 250 dpi
  • Maximum resolution: 5.000 dpi
  • Surname and first name, faculty, year of study

According to the calendar of the contest, the photos that comply with its regulations will be assessed, selected and then published on the Facebook and Instagram pages of our University. Once published, the general public will be able to vote for their favourite photo by means of a like on that image. 

At the end, the first-ranked 10 photos, totalling the highest number of likes (cumulated on Instagram + Facebook) will be declared winners and will be printed in the calendar of Transilvania University of Brașov for the year 2025.

Three photos will be selected by the organizers themselves (Transilvania University of Brașov).

The photo with the highest number of likes will be awarded with a UNITBV student kit. 

The winners will write a statutory declaration on the authenticity of their photograph and on the disposal of the copyright, with no financial rewards.

The graphics and photo publication order in the calendar exclusively rest with the Compartment of Communications within Transilvania University of Brașov.

Selection criteria:

  • Relevance of the photo to the proposed topic (peculiarities and details of the city of Brașov)
  • Creativity and originality
  • The photos that have undergone transformations due to excessive digital processing: exaggerations of colour or contrast, colour changes and other obvious manipulations, etc. will not be selected. Collages, royalty free photos or photos from various paid collections will not be accepted.
  • The photos with human portraits will not be selected.
  • The photos which have political influence, which are derogatory to the characters, which are violent, obscene, offensive or slanderous, which promote any kind of discrimination, use of drugs, tobacco or alcohol, which can cause any kind of harm to someone, or which contain advertising will not be accepted. 
  • The photos which provide clear indications not to have been taken in Brașov will not be accepted.
  • The organizers of the contest (Transilvania University of Brașov) take no responsibility for any possible copyright infringements. The liability exclusively rests with the one who will have sent the photo. (The participants whose photos will be selected to be printed in the calendar shall sign a statutory declaration by which they will take credit for the photo.)
  • With the registration of the photos in the contest, the participants will have fully accepted the provisions of these regulations and any subsequent decisions of the organizers. 
  • We reserve the right to refuse the publication of the photos that do not seem in line with the proposed topic. 
  • No appeals will be admitted at the end of the contest.
  • The contestant(s) trying to buy likes or to get additional votes through various paid or illegal technological methods will be disqualified from the contest.
