UNITBV, in the top of Romanian universities for the engineering education, according to EngiRank 2025
2 December 2025
Transilvania Universities of Brașov confirms its status as a benchmark institution in the field of engineering, according to the results displayed in EngiRank 2025 - European Ranking of Engineering Programs, the only ranking exclusively dedicated to Europe’s technical programmes. This year’s edition analyses 300 universities of 36 countries in the European Higher Education Area, and resorts to a methodology assessing academic performance, research, innovation, internationalization and the collaboration with industry.
Although it does not cover all engineering fields specific to the Romanian technical universities, as it is a comprehensive university, Transilvania University of Brașov ranks third nationally in EngiRank 2025, after “Politehnica” National University of Science and Technology, Bucharest, and the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, which highlights the high performance and relevance of its engineering programmes. UNITBV particularly stands out in the Internationalization indicator, where it has obtained one of the highest scores nationally, which reflects its active participation in European networks and programmes. Transilvania University’s all engineering programmes were conferred the EUR-ACE label (European Accredited Engineer - https://www.enaee.eu/eur-ace-system/), which attests to the high quality of the training it provides and to the compliance with the European standards in the field of engineering.
A defining element of EngiRank is the evaluation according to engineering fields. In the field of Mechanical Engineering, Transilvania University of Brașov ranks first in Romania and 160th in Europe. Moreover, in the field of Materials Engineering, UNITBV ranks first in our country and 125th in Europe, a position shared with “Politehnica” National University of Science and Technology, Bucharest. Therefore, the two universities are the national peak in this field, which confirms the high competitiveness of the research and commensurate quality of the training it provides.
Excellent achievements have also been obtained in the fields of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering,as well as Environmental Engineering, where UNITBV ranks second nationally, after “Politehnica” National University of Science and Technology, Bucharest. Although it no longer offers study programmes in the field of Chemistry, Transilvania University of Brașov is also present in the ranking for this field, due to its research activity.
Through its presence in five of the most relevant fields for European engineering, and through its top positions nationally, Transilvania University of Brașov proves the high competitiveness of its study programmes, the dynamics of its research, and its commitment to a technical education in line with the international advancements and the industry requirements.
EngiRank 2025 appears under “Perspektywy” Foundation, in partnership with Elsevier, and resorts to specific indicators for the European universities. The ranking uses Scopus bibliometric data, patent-related information from PATSTAT European database, but also data about the participation of the universities in the Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe programmes, as well as in ERC projects. Indicators on the collaboration with the industry, innovation activities, international accreditations (ABET, ENAEE), contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and level of internationalization undergo evaluation. The methodology thus combines academic performance, research, impact at European level, and relevance for the economic environment.
Through the visibility it offers into Europe’s best performing engineering programmes, EngiRank supports the future candidates in their orientation towards the most suitable universities and majors, and confirms withal UNITBV’s position as a reliable option for everyone seeking a career in the technical field.
